Torrelles de Foix (Inhabitants 1.910).

Water is the main patrimony of Torrelles de Foix. The town is located next to the river. It is not the River Foix, but the Pontons Brook. The borough of Torrelles de Foix is bordered by the districts of Anoia and Baix Penedès and is located between the boroughs of Pontons, Font-Rubí and St. Martí Sarroca. It is an important borough for summer holidays. During the holiday period the population can triple. Torrelles is documented from the year 1185. In the 16th century Els Peguera – the Foix landlords - had a castle or a luxurious house. In 1892, the last priest, Father Pallarols, died violently in the Church of Sta. Maria de Foix. The parish church was then transferred to the Cusconar neighbourhood and the temple became the Sanctuary of Mare de Déu de Foix. It has become an icon of great tradition in the Penedès region which is venerated by its population. Torrelles de Foix, with Vilobí del Penedès, Font-Rubí, Pontons, Sant Martí Sarroca and La Llacuna are part of L'Alt Foix, a geographical area which is consolidated around the Foix Basin.

NOT TO BE MISSED:

Viewpoint and Sanctuary of Santa Maria de Foix:

The Church of Santa Maria de Foix is located near the castle – of which only scarce remains have been preserved - on the top of a 643m high cliff which gives excellent views of the right side of the River Foix. The church is of Romanic origin and still preserves the nave covered with a barrel vault from this style.

The Fountains of Les Dous:

Les Dous is a fountain with 35 spouts. The fountain is located in a narrow gorge which the Pontons Brook flows down. It is an environment where people can enjoy nature, a place where both young and old can have fun.
